European Herring Gull
Thanks for the comments on the adult Herring Gull on my neighbour's roof which I posted earlier. It was accompanied by this immature bird (1st-winter?), to my eye a more attractive looking bird.

Habitat
Breeds mainly along rocky coastlines on cliffs, stacks and islands, in some areas on buildings or on flatter areas of shore and in others at inland lakes. Mainly coastal when not breeding but increasingly in urban areas and on farmland. Abundant at refuse-tips and around fishing harbours (Opus)

Thanks JJ. The two birds yesterday were the closest large gulls I'd ever photographed (and from the comfort of my living room) so it was rather an event :).
