Fall-Winter -
Indian River Tern
or simply
River Tern ... is a
Near Threatened
species ...
Here ... it was
barely minutes
before sunset ...
... we were boarding
our jeep to go
back to
Whistling Woods ...
a lovely facility at
the edge of Amboli forest
... a nearly one and
a half century old
Hill Station ... created
by Portuguese to
fight British ... in
India ...
the facility is run by a
butterfly buff who has
written an extremely
good illustrated
treatise on
Butterflies of Western Ghat
... and then this Tern
came out of nowhere
plunged close to
the water surface ...
... picked up a decent
sized fish ... circled
overhead and finished
it in air ...
This may be seen in a
video-clip ...
another
species-first at
ebird / ML ... and it
truly surprises me ...
