Female Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

A dream come true! Just yesterday I had placed a suet cake in this feeder that was supposed to be especially for woodpeckers. I had placed it just for her in hopes that she would return, and today she did! Sorry if this is redundant, but it is a slightly different pose, taken in same session as previous post. Couldn't figure out whether she would look better cropped vertically or horizontally, so I posted both.
Habitat
meadow, farmland, horse pasture
Location
backyard, near Fort Ashby, WV, USA
Date taken
2-7-15
Scientific name
Dryocopus pileatus
Equipment used
Olympus SP-510 UZ
You could post 10 photos in a row of this bird and I wouldn't care. Another fine shot of this amazing bird! Well done!

LOL I'm with Bill there!! And don't really care whether you do a landscape crop or portrait. 'suppose portrait suit vertical subjects better. But.... and this is very personal.... portrait orientations don't fit on my little laptop screen too well. But that's not to say they shouldn't be done... and I sometimes do it myself.

A great idea to put out a suet feeder for the woodies.. and what a result!! I'm glad she's back again. Now then, Adele... I want to see some fledglings in a few months;)

Very interesting, great closeup, well done. This big bird is hard to catch a picture of. We have some in our woods, only been able to get a few pictures of this Woodpecker

This one sure looks determined, nice shot of this o'so large one. Top shot Adele.

Thanks so very much, everyone! There has been some tree-cutting going on here recently to make more clearance for power lines. So perhaps that's why this Woodpecker has been appearing at my feeders.
