Field Crescent (Phyciodes pulchella)

Crescents get their name from the row of crescent shaped spots on the edges of their hind-wings. This is a locally common rather dark species of the American West. There are several similar species ranging elsewhere. The Field Crescent may be distinguished by its dark brown antenna tips as seen here. Often placed in P. campestris or P. pratensis, but it appears P. pulchella has priority.

That's another lovely butterfly you've got for us today Joe.
