Field of Lapwings (Vanellus vanellus)

Next day a friend had offered to show us a trail that's hard to follow unless you've been there before. It crosses the outfields of a farm that dates back to the viking era and is still in the same family - Tore inheriting from Hvard inheriting from Tore over hundreds of generations. The Tore who owns it now can be a bit of a curmudgeon or a hospitable host, depending on whether you show an interest in local history (and I guess also on whether his arthritis is acting up or not). That's also a reason it's wise to go with a local guide who knows him. But as it happened, he wasn't home. Anyway ... the day started early with us picking up our guide. Some fields near his farm are apparently where all the Lapwings are. I tried for some flight shots, but with a car coming up behind us on the narrow road I only had time for one rushed snap.

Mmmm.... nice one Ann.

And lovely to hear that they are doing well there with you, when they're really struggling in my area.
