A beautifully marked Fieldfare sampling the Crab Apples in a North Norfolk Garden.
The (very sour) Crab Apples seem to be a food source of last resort due to the snow as they normally go untouched.
Unfortunately taken through a misty double glazed window which has reduced resolution and contrast as the Fieldfare was too skittish for me to go outside.
I find it astonishing you still have even crab apples! - the Blackbirds and Blackcaps had scoffed mine all up by November! I wonder if it’s a different variety? Wonderful image - with no more heavy snow likely I have given up on Fieldfare or Redwing in the garden this winter so tfs 🙂

I think we must have a very sour variety of Crab Apples unfortunately. The birds don't seem to touch them. Even this one only ate half of one then gave up and never came back!
