Fighting Grebes

Fighting Grebes (Podiceps cristatus)

In the harbour there are lots of grebes looking for a mate. Sometimes the courting is followed by a bit of a fight between rivals. They go at it quite entusiastic and sometimes a grebe gets injured or even killed.
The grebes nest in the harbour, in the reeds along the pontoons for many years, they are used to people walking by. This year however all the nests failed because of predation of the eggs. According to the harbourmaster ducks take the eggs and destroy them, even flying off with them. Never heard of ducks attacking nests, wuold appreciate any info on that.

Super action shot; looks like they've both just jumped right out of the water. Nice one!
