Fire-eyed Diucon (Xolmis pyrope fortis)

Two subspecies are recognized. This is the larger X. p. fortis which is endemic to Chilo Island where it is resident. Meyer de Schauensee placed this distinctive tyrant flycatcher in the monotypic genus Pyrope based on the narrow primaries of the male, but inclusion with the monjitas in Xolmis is now generally accepted.
