First Blackcap

First Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla)

In the woods behind the church yesterday, and heard a beautiful sound that I hadn't heard since last year. Got closer to where these glorious melodie were coming from, and there were two male Blackcaps, but would they come out from the scrub, would they hell as like. I love the song of these birds, and was quite prepared to sit and listen for a while. All of a sudden the woods were quiet, and the sounds of the Blackcaps had disappeared. I ventured across the road behind the allotments, and into the woods. Sat having a rest, and surprise, surprise, the song of the Blackcaps resumed. It was the two males again, but this time one of them flew up into a tree but very briefly, allowing me a couple of shots. Although the pics are not brilliant, this is a new photo species for me, so it was well worth the walk.

Great shots Mali. I had my first Blackcap in the garden 5 days ago but could not get any decent photos. Well done.

Another of my favourite birds. We have had a male in the garden on and off for the last few weeks but he's not keen on posing.
