This is a scene from Sewree Creek in Mumbai's inner harbor. Between October and March each year, thousands of flamingos migrate here from Rann of Kachchh to feed, nest and breed. They feed on algae and other microbes on the sea bed in shallow waters and hence keep shifting to areas convenient for wading, as the tide changes. Their nesting place is in the mangroves, seen in the background of this image, which dot the length of Mumbai's inner harbor(white specs seen are flamingos flying in/out of the mangroves). There are a few thousand flamingos in this frame alone which covers only a small portion of the migration area. Estimated migration is about 20000 birds. There are other water birds like herons, egrets, gulls in this melee but in small numbers. It is a bird watchers' paradise.
