Fluffy!

Fluffy! (Junco hyemalis)

Well the temps are dropping (they've gone down five degrees since I got up this morning) and we are supposed to go below zero F. for the next several nights. I thought this little Junco all fluffed to stay warm an appropriate image for the day here. Such amazing creatures to survive the harsh conditions. During the day they are little eating machines and in between will roost and fluff up like this.

Got to be the fluffiest bird I have seen Deanne!! brilliant capture, and I am sure your birds will survive the way you feed them my friend :t::t::t:

Not so amazing when one considers they have been doing it for 100's of thousands of years. They are far better adapted to these extremes than humans are, even with our technology: as the price of fossil fules go up we suffer more. Oh well. This is another fine shot. Got the bird in the "bokeh" sweet spot with minimal circle of confusion; esp since using 500 + 1.4. Very well done. :t: :t: :t: :t: Cup of warm cheer against the cold B :)

Blimey Deanne, what have you been feeding your birds on? This un looks like a good advert for obesity amongst our little feathered friends. A great image, packed full of beautiful detail, great stuff young lady!!!!!!!

Beautiful shot, Deanne! He is really puffed up! I don't blame him either with these plummeting temps. It's supposed to reach -29 C tomorrow night (I think that's about -20 F). Brrrrrr
