Formosan Macaque
Formosan Macaque (5-12kg).

This male macaque is a member of a troop that frequents the Tatachia area of Yushan National Park. Tatachia is at an altitude of 2600m. I've seen this troop at Tatachia in both summer and winter. Tatachia can get quite cold in winter and ice and snow are common.

Aside from humans (genus Homo), the macaques are the most widespread primate genus, ranging from northern Africa to Japan. Twenty-two macaque species are currently recognised. The Formosan Macaque is endemic to Taiwan and the only monkey found on Taiwan.
