Fortuitous (Francolinus pondicerianus)

Life : Fortuitous

This image I took
hiding behind a
cover along a
trail ... and the bird
was not visible to
me ... only seen on
the screen of a
raised camera ...

These birds have
such a long ... bad
and forgettable
association with
humans ...

There is a lot of
poaching despite a
ban on the hunting
of these wonderful
birds ...

(At first opportunity
the latter will
skin them and
devour ... )

So, they have become
so very wary
that they scurry
away into hiding
at first sight ...
... even when they are
hundred yards
away ... we have been
trying for ages
to get
a close shot ...

... and on that
rainy-day birding ...
... it happened ...

A blessing from
Mother Nature herself ...

... a small party of
about half a dozen of
these fabulous Francolins
passed along the
site we were waiting ...
... almost at the
close of the day ...

It does look highly edible, poor thing. Good job of the bird to stay so well hidden. And good job you, catching this excellent close-up without stressing the bird
