Although smaller than the Cormorant (looks bigger in this pic) the Great Black Backs in this comparison shows just how big these gulls are. I think they are some 5 cm larger than a Buzzard.
Very interesting shot Peter. Before even reading the narrative, my reaction was astonishment at the size of the GBBG, positively monstrous. Reminds me of a London Natural History Society outing to Barn Elms Reservoir (as was) donkey's years ago when a GBBG flew over low and a beginner in the party said it was "Like an eagle!".
The reflections help to make this a pleasing composition, nice work.
