Getting the shot! (Sterna hirundo)

Common Tern I think? Forrester's breeding range is in the area. For the Common Tern seeing it would be on migration here. I haven't seen a bonafide fresh juvenile yet though.
I encourage photographer's to push the ISO. I didn't want to go above ISO 800, and for the longest time I didn't. I've heard others say the same thing. So when you get into a situation were you need a higher shutter speed just go for it. F9 1/2000 ISO 1600 at 500mm

super capture and i know what you mean about that iso.i usually have to put it up here but usually my captures are to grainy.tfs.all the best margaret.
 
Great timing, and a great catch for you and the bird too. Beautiful picture Brian. I use to never go above 400 ISO, got a lot of blur shots, now at times I go as high as 3200 ISO, in poor lighting, and fast moving birds. They say with the newer cameras you can go up higher with the ISO .
