Glaucous-winged Gull (Larus glaucescens)

This large, hulking gull breeds along the coasts of the North Pacific including North America and Asia. Adults such as this can usually be identified by their wing-tips which are gray, closely matching the pearl-gray of the mantle. This species is notorious for hybridizing with other gulls including Western, Herring, Glaucous and Slaty-backed Gulls producing a bewildering variety of intermediates to challenge birders.
