Glossy Ibis

Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)

Another first from my trip to Kokkare Bellur/Ranganathittu Reserves last month. Smallest of the ibises perhaps. Had got a few distant shots of them earlier along with other waders. They were foraging all by themselves this time; so I think I can call this a lifer.

Off to Bengaluru again this noon for a few days to attend a wedding, will try to post whenever I can.
Habitat
marshes at the margins of lakes and rivers but can also be found at lagoons, flood-plains, wet meadows, swamps, reservoirs, sewage ponds, paddies and irrigated farmland
Location
Kokkare Bellur, Karnataka; India
Date taken
07-11-2015
Scientific name
Plegadis falcinellus
Equipment used
fujifilm finepix HS 50 EXR, handheld, cropped

Lovely shot and setting of this quartet SK, many tfs and well done on another first for you.

Lovely capture SK & congrats on another newbie...I got my first pics of this species about 2 weeks ago, and I was really surprised at how small they really are. One was foraging with a flock of Coots and it wasn't much bigger than them until it stood up. Have a great knees-up at the wedding & stay safe.

LOL SK... there was almost a risk that I got this one before you!! They've not quite made it to this part of Scotland yet though!

What a great picture of this attractive ibis... I didn't realise they were so small. Many congratulations on your new record.

Have a lovely time at the wedding my friend.
