Go Away! (Accipiter cooperii)

Please let me know if I'm wrong and this is a sharpie. I was in my garden with the camera when this hawk landed on the fence gate not 15 ft. from me. It looked at me and even let me turn and point the camera at it. After a few pics, it flew to a bird bath on the other side of the garden. It allowed me to again walk up close and it wasn't a bit startled when my dog walked right up to it. After taking a drink, it then jumped to a weather vane and just watched me as I continued to photograph it before it eventually flew off into the trees. Quite an experience for me to be able to see it up close.

he, he.. I see Donal chickened out of confirming the ID for you Vicki..... as am I!!

What a great time you had with this guy, didn't you. And what great poses he allowed you to get.

Very nicely done lassie.

Coopers all day long for me Vicki...They have the rusty breast with white horizontal breast lines...Sharpie whitish breast with rust coloured horizontal lines, I hope thats right...Super capture.

Judging by the tarsi width and talon size alone, I'd guess Coopers (assuming that Coopers is the Goshawk-sized Accipiter). Great pose, expression, detail, and perch, Vicki

Cooper's for me as well and a great capture. I have a brass wind spinner in my yard and I've never been this lucky. A great capture girl.

A beautiful raptor whatever it is, a superb capture Vicki, looks great on the wind-turbine!
