Both male and female were present as a nest was built and occupied with chicks within a meter of the main trail at Monteverde Reserve in Costa Rica. Literally 100's of people walked by this nest every day with most people stopping and photographing the adults and the chicks. Apparently it did not phase the parents. What is unusual about this opportunity is this is usually a high canopy bird and to photograph them at eye level was a real treat.
They are beautiful birds. I was happy to get the opportunity. I have seen them many times in that area, but all my previous shots are way up in the trees.
Stanley, I consider that high praise. This bird was so cooperative-just guarding his nest. Between my wife and myself we took just short of 100 shots of him and the female (beautiful in her own right).
