Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)

This appears to be a full adult showing overall dark plumage except for the striking gold nape extending down onto the sides of the neck, and faint barring on the base of the tail. Note the yellow feet visible under the base of the tail. It takes this uncommon but widespread species more than five years to achieve full adult plumage. Birds in North America are the partly migratory subspecies A. c. canadensis. Other subspecies are generally resident.
