Gouldian Finch (Erythrura gouldiae)

While parked on the side of a bush track, watching the antics of some Long-tailed Finches, this perfect male red-headed phase Gouldian Finch flew up and 'modeled' for us. The photo was taken from the vehicle.

Hello Robert, you must get in touch with me if you visiting Darwin. The best time to see Gouldians is from June to September, when waterholes are reliable spots to see them and many other small birds.. Late wet season a lot of the waterholes have dried up completely and in the height of the wet season there is water everywhere. Their numbers seem to be steadily increasing and sightings more reliable, though each season is different.
