Great-billed Heron

Great-billed Heron (Ardea sumatrana)

These herons generally stay well- hidden, or fly away fast when discovered. But these two stayed put for a while. When one flew further in the side river we realized why it had stayed at first: the other was a juvie and possibly not yet flying, so the adult stayed as long and as close as it dared.
