Great crested grebe - master fisher (Podiceps cristatus)

Great crested grebe - master fisher... I have just returned from a marvelous day on the Somerset Levels. I have seen great white egrets collecting nest material, watched grebe, pike and cormorants fishing and heard bitterns booming all day and the Sun came out. What more could one ask for.
Habitat
Lowland lakes, gravel pits, reservoirs and rivers. Also found along coasts in winter.

Sounds like the perfect kind of day to me Keith. I'm glad you had such a great time. This is outstanding. So hard to believe this grebe could swallow that fish.

It appears this Grebe can rest for the rest of the day (lol). Fabulous action and behavioral picture PS!!!
 
Brilliant timing, Keith! It can be quite a struggle for them to swallow a fish of that size.
