GREAT EGRET (Arbea alba)

Name: GREAT EGRET
Scientific name: Arbea alba
Size: 89-107cm

Personal Observations:
This large egret is a common non breeding resident in Barbados where I have seen and photographed it at the northern and southern ends of the island. I have also seen it in swamps of Trinidad and at river mouths in Dominica. This elegant and graceful bird is quite shy; I had to approach it at a snails pace wearing green and brown for camouflage in order to get good photos. It is a sight to behold seeing this beautiful bird in flight. If disturbed, it will take flight effortlessly and move further on where it considers it to be a safe distance between observers and itself.
