Great Horned Owl

It's been 13 years since I've seen a Great Horned Owl. I emailed a local birder who found one during the CBC and asked him if he'd take me to the spot he found it.

The place is called the 'eucalyptus grove' but it's a known spot for the homeless. As a lone female birder I didn't feel comfortable going in there by myself.

We tromped around for nearly an hour before I found this guy.

Great find too, nice shot buddy. You be careful treading on dangerous grounds, no bird is worth being hurt for.

^ No worries. I put my personal safety above all else.

I had a local male birder escort me into the grove. There is no way I would have ventured in there by myself.

Unfortunately there are a lot of great birding places in Southern California that are located in some dodgy areas.
