Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)

Despite how this image looks, the time that it was taken ( 5:11 AM ) was before sun up, it was still nearly dark (notice how wide open the bird's pupils are ). I dialed in a high ISO ( see EXIF data ), and still had to use a relatively slow shutter for a long lens. Obviously a tripod was used. I'm pleased with how the 1Dx renders dark and contrast under low light conditions.

Canon 1dx : Lens: Canon EF 500 IS USM L + 1.4 T/C (effective focal length 700mm) : Mode; aperture priority : Metering; partial : Exp.; 1/60 @ f5.6, + .33 comp : ISO 3200 : White bal., custom recorded from white card : Manfroto tripod + ProMediaGear gimbal
Just the technical side is awesome, but WOW! What a beautiful image! That is very well done!! With it's ears laid back like that, it does not look happy to have been disturbed!

LOL Mark I love the look he's giving you - he seems to be staring you out!!!

A super picture of a cracking bird - very well done lad.

Those pupils are amazing but so is this entire capture. An excellent capture at such a high iso. Well done.

My pupils are even wider seeing this photo, brilliant. The time and effort that has gone into the shot were well worth it, I am most impressed with the information. The 1dx is an excellent camera and I cannot wait for the mkii. Very well taken shot.
