Great Spotted Woodpecker

Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)

This log was designed for Nuthatches; a Great Spotted Woodpecker on it is a bit too close really (this is completely uncropped). I still haven't got Nuthatch at my feeding station - it simply cannot be absent!
Habitat
Wooded riverbank
Location
Private site, Surrey
Date taken
15/3/08
Scientific name
Dendrocopos major
Equipment used
Canon 40D, 600mm f4
This really is a superb capture. I would not worry about the Nuthatch - they seem to have disappeared from gardens at the moment - I am sure they will be back soon and then you can post an equally splendid image.
