Green Heron
Green Heron also known as the Green-backed Heron (Butorides virescens virescens) There are currently four recognized subspecies with only the nominate being mapped for Costa Rica. Sexes similar. This one was photographed along the banks of Rio Tempisque in Palo Verde National Park, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica. Riverine surrounded by bottomlands with large inclusions of wetlands at ca. 15 m (49 ft) elevation.
