Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina)

Harbor seals sleep in the water by submerging their bodies and pointing their noses in the air, a resting position called "bottling" as seen here. Their spotted coat and lack of external ears are typical of this species which ranges widely along the coasts of both the north Pacific and the Atlantic. They are said to be the most widely distributed pinniped in the world.
