Hawk Owl & Vole (Surnia ulula)

This is a lucky shot. This owl swoops down to take voles placed on the snow for it but it is only in the frame for a fraction of a second. A second attempt produced a picture of a vole on the snow then just snow - no owl!

Note the little puff of snow below the vole.

It was breathtaking to watch.
