Heermann's Gull

Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni)

This adult is in near breeding plumage showing a mostly white head. In non-breeding plumage the head becomes more smudgy. This unique species breeds primarily on Isla Rasa in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico and migrates north to the Pacific Coast as far as Southern Canada.

He's such a handsome gull this one Joe.

That's a marvellous picture you've taken of him too - very well done.

It's interesting that our Herring Gull gets a speckly head in the winter, I've not yet noticed if our other 'white-headed' ones do as well.
