Bico reto de banda branca em plumagem ps nupcial.
Measures about 12.5 inches in length. In this species, the female differs from the male mainly in that it has a scaly throat and chest, that is, with only the green central part and the remaining light gray. Unlike most other species, (Heliomaster squamosus) and (Heliomaster furcifer) have 2 plumage seedlings per year. After the postmarital moulting they get a resting plumage. The adult male loses the iridescent red-violet plumage of his throat and chest and becomes similar to the female and young of his species.
