Hiding in the greenery (Pica pica)

This young Magpie and a sibling had clearly been told to stay put in the pine tree while Mum was gathering insects on a lawn nearby. The two kids had been testing the boundaries and tiptoeing out onto the lawn around the tree, but when I came by they hurried back to the innermost branches and peered at me cautiously through the needles. Mum, meanwhile, simply kept on gathering insects.
