Himalayas - 31
Ravage & Resilience

...This used to be a
beautiful small
river in the
Himalayan foothills ...
Lovely in its setting
and backdrop ...
... and , rich in
bird-life ...

Now ...
There is a flourishing
Industrial township
along the River ...

And it flows
like a drain ...
mutilated and
maligned ...

Rivers in India '
big and small
are facing a tough

But ...
Nature is resilient...

At this very point
I had spotted
River Lapwings ...
... on our last visit
six years ago

... and during our
recent visit, as
I was locating that
spot to Renu ,
We noted a group
of them again ...

Thankfully, they have
stayed on ...
...in-spite of all
the devastation
inflicted to the
ecosystem ...

... A tractor trolley
was being filled up
with sand ...
scooped out of
The River-bed
...to be sold for
construction purpose ...
very close to
these birds

Mixed group of

River Lapwing
( Species Status :Near Threatened )
Red-wattled Lapwing

Himalayan Foot-hill River

Date taken
Scientific name
Vanellus duvaucelii
Not a species we see very often here in the Gallery Alok and captured beautifully.
Great note Alok, sad that times are tough in certain regions, it will take strong officials to put it right. Lovely capture of these beautiful birds my friend, keep them coming!
A very beautiful capture, extraordinary to me. Guess the biodiversity in your country is awesome but I just need to think about the river Rhine here 20 years ago. A broken ecosystem is not an answer.
