Hogmanay Present (Sitta europaea)

At long, long last... the last day of 2021 and the Nuthatch finally decided to show itself for me (although he doesn't appear to be that pleased with being caught on camera.

I knew there was one around but had never been able to see it. Then I heard it was visiting the new feeding station at Craighall and my friend would often ring me to say it was there, so I'd shoot over but he'd gone.

The last day of 2021 was rather nice, so thought I'd pay a last visit of the year to these feeders and within 20 minutes there he was coming down a tree!!

Yippee!! Am I allowed to post this for Saturday Fun?

A lovely portrait of this handsome little Nuthatch, Delia! I've only seen one in Scotland and was told by a couple of Scottish birders who were present at the time that Nuthatches are recent arrivals in Scotland. I didn't realize that.

Hi Graham - they have been present in the Lothians for about 20 years I think. And I saw one in Coldstream in 2013. I first heard of one up the glen near here about 2 years ago and heard one in Dunkeld about 4 years ago.

Terrific close-up of this beautiful Nuthatch. Excellent pose, focus, dof, lighting, feather detail, and eye contact. Superb D! TFS!
