Hooded Munia
Sometimes called Hooded Mannikin or New Britain Mannikin, but name changed to avoid confusion with the New World Manakin family (Pipridae). Munias are in the Waxbill family (Estrildidae). This species is endemic to New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. Three subspecies are recognized. This is the nominate New Britain race with creamy white underparts. Some individuals of this race have faint brown spotting on the breast as seen here. Apparently this is only the second photo of this species posted to the gallery.
