Yes, it's sad to see how quickly the number of fledglings falls, and yet ... the average life span of small birds is pretty much right where it needs to be. It's when overall numbers fall that we need to be worried. That on average only one chick per brood makes it through to the next breeding season is about what we have to expect. Maybe this will be that chick, especially now that he's got his parents' undivided attention |=)|
