Iceland Gull
This first cycle bird shows rather pale wing-tips possibly suggesting the race L. g. kumlieni. Prior to L. g. thayeri being demoted from a full species, birds of this type caused major headaches on the West Coast with endless arguments over whether they were just pale examples of the expected Thayer's Gull or true "kumlieni" Iceland normally wintering in Eastern and Central North America. In fact kumlieni is highly variable and may represent a hybrid zone between thayeri and nominate Iceland.

The legs and shadow at the top of the shot made me giggle! A well detailed portrait, Joseph.
