In the magdalenian age.

A herd of horses in the Capcir mountains. French Pyrnes. July 2008.

The horses of the Mrens race are very close to the animals painted by our cro-magnon ancestors on the walls of the Niaux cave,in Arige, french Pyrnees,13000 years ago, during the last ice age.

In summer, the horses of this race live absolutely free in the mountain, above the tree-line.
Many thanks all for your kind and beautifully inspired comments :t:

Ove-I hope you come back there ;) :t:

Fabulous landscape Bernard, beautifully taken as usual. Wonderful colour.

Thank you very much for your kind and beautiful words,Kim,Jonesy and Donald :t:

Thank you both,my friends :t:

Probably not very different,Easty. Nowadays,in the alpine zone,we have a tundra-like vegetation:very close to the vegetations of the french plains during the magdalenian period.

It looks so wild and beautiful, and so nice to hear that the horses live in peace untamed perhaps?
In England and Scotland we also have similar caves where our ancestors carved wonderful images such as snakes and pagan symbols onto the cave walls, back in a time when England was wild and green.
A wonderful natural shot Bernard and great infomation too:t::t::t:

Thank you very much,Sam for this very detailed and informative comment :t::t:

These horses live absolutely free in the montain only during the summer months. In winter their owners keep them in enclosed pastures of the valley.
Shortly in this gallery, the portrait of the Mrens race ;)
