In the middle
.... but at the upper end. Bigger than little but smaller than great. Ken pointed out an Intermediate Egret on the far side of one of the lakes.

I still struggled with identifying these with certainty right to the end of my trip. He told me the features to look for - rounder head and shorter gape line than the Great. Once or twice I got it right, but I wasn't infallible LOL.

Nice looking birds though.

To take a liberty with
the lyrics:
'Egrets,
You've seen a few,
Some are great,
And some are little,
But this,
This one today,
It's none of those,
It's in the middle.
You went,
To Sandy Camp,
Where the breeze,
It makes the trees sway,
And brought,
This picture home,
You did it D's way.'
Great shot, D.
(I hope that you sang this post.)

it's indeed not always easy to identify, Delia, superb photo in a great setting, top class, many tfs!!!

I too found them hard to tell from Greats unless both species were standing near one another.
