Just before dinner

Just before dinner (Numenius arquata)

After our walk around Veidholmen, we drove back to the center of the island. Our former neighbors and good friends who used to live across the street from us have a summer home there and had invited us to dinner. It's her childhood home on the farm her parents cleared (by draining the peat bogs and digging up the heath). This was part of a program back in the 20's and 30's to create new farms and slow emigration to the US. Hard work, but a lovely place for holidays. Before dinner I took a walk out through the fields and across some remaining heath. It wasn't me that scared up the Curlews, though. I didn't get that far. I think they flew up when they saw an eagle fly by. They kept on "patrolling" the area for a while, giving me plenty more flight shot practice. Here are the two I think were my best shots.
