Just get's no respect!!! Heermann's Gull

Just get's no respect!!! Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni)

The Heermann's gull is one of the birds that is so over looked as a desirable bird for local birders. When in fact we are blessed with nearly 90% of the population, right here in this area!

Given that the entire species breeds on one single island, they have been considered for "threatened" classification.

This bird is pretty much in full breeding plumage, but in some cases, the black tip of it's bill will get quite a bit more pronounced!

That's a great picture you've got of him Tom, in some lovely light too.

We don't see these coming in too often (it's above a year since the last arrival)!! Many thanks for sharing him with us.

Your photo in the soft light makes this bird so much softer and more appealing than a shot of gulls at the El Coro dump down the street from our town. LOL, seriously sometimes I forget that many of these birds, in their natural setting, are so beautiful and appealing. On the other hand, in "unnatural" settings, like gulls in dumps or pigeons on a park bench, they are not so appealing.
I am going to be in the US on the 19th so will miss your presentation in La Paz. Would love to meet you and see some of your pictures.

Thanks everybody!!

Baja, that is too bad, it would be fun to meet another local birder and photographer!

They're lovely with that chocolatey coloring! I was thrilled when I saw my first ones up on Vancouver Island.
