Juv Night Heron
... by day. I was hoping to see the Bittern that had been reported in the reeds at another lake nearby. No luck in the reeds either at North Lake or at Elk Grove Lake, but two juvenile Night Herons did pop out and show for a while at North Lake. I was going to make one last visit to the other lake the morning before my evening flight home, but it was pouring rain so I just went to the airport and read a book while I waited to check in. Still, no complaints. 84 species seen in all, of which 4 lifers.

.... och well I suppose it was no surprise that you didn't see a Bittern was it Ann!!! Blighters that they are!!!

You got a great sighting of this heron to compensate (slightly, I suppose ;)). As you say you had a good run that trip, didn't you girl!!

Super shot of this youngster Ann, sounds a very successful birding trip, I am jealous, Tfs

Wonderful shots Doc. Congratulations on the lifers and on finding so many species.
