Juvenile Swallow
Snapped this guy feeding along the canal with a bunch of his mates.

Had to put my camera settings on sports and multi-shot using tracking focus to have any chance of getting anything other than an abstract blur of him with my compact zoom.

Think I took 150 photos and about 10 turned out okay-ish ;-)

Gawd!!!! Well you've had better luck than me then Ritchy.... I use the same setting as you when photographing birds, but never managed a picture of a swallow in flight, at least not a close one.

Well done you lad. Excellent work.

Thanks guys - and Delia my Canon compact has an impressive 30x optical zoom with a top notch image stabilisation setting.

I just sat quietly at the canal bank until the birds got used to me and they would happily fly by really close!

I think they understood that I wasn't a threat or a predator - they even seemed to enjoy flying around me!

It was a fantastic experience :)

Gosh, you did well to get this fantastic flight shot.

Thanks guys - all your positive comments really helps and makes me want to get out there more often with my camera. In fact Ithink I'll pop out tomorrow seeing as it's a Saturday ;-)
