Killdeer (broken-wing act)
Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus subsp. vociferus) Sexes similar. This protective mom was playing the broken-wing act to lure me away from her precocial youngsters. Lol, it worked. Photographed at Veterans Park, College Station, Brazos County, Texas, USA. Open bermuda grass fields (atheletic fields) at ca. 72 m (237 ft) elevation. July 2015

What an interesting behavioural shot, Stanley. A wonderfully detailed study of this lovely bird.

Super behaviour shot Stanley, your a large but harmless preditor too, Ha Ha, Tfs

Two super captures Stan, love these birds...I had a Ringed Plover do the same to me a few weeks ago, knowing why, I had to tread carefully as I walked away.

One of my favourites these.... such typical behaviour for them, isn't it.

A super picture you've taken of this lovely bird - very well done Stanley.

A great closeup of this acting Killdeer Stanley.

I will never forget the very first time I witnessed the broken wing act. I didn't know and it broke my heart. Had a good laugh though after I found out what it was all about ;)

I recall watching ... I think it may have been a Kildeer, or possibly another plover ... playing this act in a park by San Francisco Bay. Unfortunately, the crows it was trying to fool were too smart. One crow did a double decoy act by following the Kildeer to keep it moving away, while the others raided the nest.
