Kingfisher fledgling

Kingfisher fledgling (Alcedo atthis)

This fledgling was the last to leave the nest and came out of the nesthole and landed on a branch only about 2 metres in front of me, where it stayed for some 12 minutes before being called away by a parent bird.

Thanks Jonesboy and Johnny.

"your one lucky guy jeff" - and you know what Johnny, to misquote the famous South African golfer Gary Player, the more hours I spend out in the field watching, studying and photographing these birds the luckier I seem to get! :-O:-O:-O

Thanks Julie, Deanne and Tilly.
Incidentally, the bird is sitting on a branch which was used regularly by the parent birds for killing/stunning fish before taking them into the nesthole and the silvery bits on the right hand end are fish scales remaining from such activity.
