Kingfisher hovering
I have spent some time coaching this bird. Once the hide was in place I set two perches, so I could have 2 cameras set, (1 pointing at each perch). I have also put a small mesh bag (peanut type, with weights in) with groundbait to attract the fish (on a string so it can be refilled) under each perch and bingo, great images. This was of course a bit more of a grab shot as this female hovered.

Really did look like a hummingbird from the thumbnail. Beautiful colors in this shot. That blue just pops!

Stunning image, even the background colors and direction add to the effect. I read a book by David Hollands (Kingfishers and Kookaburras) who has photographed all the Australian Kingfishers and it really made me appreciate the time and effort put into his shots. I hadn't really given it must thought. So, you really deserve this great shot Nigel. Thanks.

Truly unbelievable, one of the most amazing bird photographs i have seen.
You are an inspiration for sure, good for you, I am glad the work you put in paid off.

Many thanks for all the kind comments re this image and the other Kingfisher shots I have posted recently. I have spent a couple more days working on them this week, today I shot almost 600 images and will post a couple later. Pushing the limits a bit as I was shooting at a 30th of a second most of the time in order to get max DOF, so i am sure many will be deleted.
