Lakescape ... 409
It was just luck
that we located this
Bittern, one of the
smallest among Bitterns
in the hedges
growing along the
edge of the water ...
... and with great
difficulty could focus
through a mesh of
branches and leaves ...
He was gazing intensely
on the water surface ...
that to us simply looked
covered with Algae ...
... nothing visible in
the water through
that ...
... suddenly his globular
shape stretched to
more than double this
size ... froze for a
moment ... plonked his
bill into the water ...
spear-like ... came out
with a small fish ... and
promptly swallowed it ...
And, all along, to us,
this fellow
looked hardly capable
of such remarkable
smartness ...
One can watch this
action in a small
video-clip we could make ...
