Lakescape - 409 (Ixobrychus sinensis)

Lakescape ... 409

It was just luck
that we located this
Bittern, one of the
smallest among Bitterns
in the hedges
growing along the
edge of the water ...

... and with great
difficulty could focus
through a mesh of
branches and leaves ...

He was gazing intensely
on the water surface ...
that to us simply looked
covered with Algae ...
... nothing visible in
the water through
that ...
... suddenly his globular
shape stretched to
more than double this
size ... froze for a
moment ... plonked his
bill into the water ...
spear-like ... came out
with a small fish ... and
promptly swallowed it ...

And, all along, to us,
this fellow
looked hardly capable
of such remarkable
smartness ...

One can watch this
action in a small
video-clip we could make ...

Such a lovely picture of this stalking bittern - very well done Alok.

Thanks for the Video too - now linked to Opus.

A superb action shot of this bittern , Alok. I like the intense stare of the eyes. It was quite a feat to capture it among all these branches. I like the story too.

Such a beautiful closeup of this Bittern Alok. Nicely captured.

Super picture. A great video too. Lovely to see it after its mighty catch. LOL.
I think the bittern is a looser. I had tagliatelle with bio tomato sauce (basil, oregano, garlic, sea salt and Jalapeno peppers) and a seafood mix containing different products from aquafarms around the globe and from sea fishing.

You really got in close. This is super Alok. These birds blend in so well in the vegetation.

Lovely close-up Alok & Renu. The name Paperbark comes about because it is often seen in paperbard trees.

He does have a very piercing gaze :eek!: I guess it's quite literally piercing, through algae-clogged water piercing. Well done him! And well done you for focusing through all those branches. A similar feat, come to think of it, just at a larger scale |=)|
