Lakescape - 432 (Porzana porzana)

A lifer in Spring ...

I have to interrupt
the Raptor series ...
... to share this
wonderful encounter that
happened on our
last birding day out
two days ago ...

Here is a lovely little
winter visitor to
our area ...

The Spotted Crake

A lifer for us ...

... and first in the
database here from
India ...

along with a video-clip
that is first
on BFtv ... from
anywhere ...

And imagine ... we did it
in the surviving patch of
the lost wetland area ...
more than 90 p.c. of
that has already been
drained ... and the rest
will cease to exist by
the next season ...
... See it in the video

In this clip one can see
the Crake fighting with
Common Snipe and
Yellow wagtail for feeding
space ...

Even the image here
shows him shouting at
them ... taken close to
Sunset time ...

Lovely capture of this rarity! Is there some mechanism in India through which the presence of a rare bird can be used to halt development of an area?

Dear friends! Another beautiful bird, lively video, interesting information. But also another sad story of destruction and distinction. I've just read that they are threatened in Germany too and that there are only 4000 to 6000 couples breeding throughout Central Europe. I always feel for the animals that have no place to go. They come back to the places they know and everything has changed, no more food, no more shelter. It's so sad.
